Microsoft is expected to showcase the next iteration of its desktop operating system, Windows 9 on
. Codenamed Windows Threshold, the operating system could bring a notification center to the desktop operating system,
.
The Redmond-based technology giant introduced a notification hub, dubbed Action Center to its mobile operating system with the
update. But unlike the Action Center, the notification center in Windows 9 would not take the entire screen and instead be situated at the bottom right corner of the screen on the system tray. It is worth noting that Apple’s desktop operating system Mac OS also facilitates a similar feature called Notification Center.
Much like Windows Phone’s Action Center, the notification center will allow users to clear all the notifications one by one or in a single-click. The size of the notification windows will be fixed, and hence, users will have to scroll through the list as their notifications populate. It will also offer shortcut buttons to feature settings.
Windows 9 is expected to see the return of Start menu, which Microsoft hadn’t included in Windows 8.x operating system. And remove the Charms bar, which many Windows 8.x users don’t appreciate. In addition, the company is also expected to bring its voice assistant service Cortana, which is available in Windows Phone 8.1x operating system to the desktop, however, it is unlikely to included in the Technology Preview of Windows 9, which Microsoft is expected to release on September 30.
