Asus could be bidding for Toshiba’s notebook business in an intention to become one of the top three notebook PC manufacturers of the world
Toshiba might be selling its notebook business which is fifth in terms of shipment both worldwide and in the US, and is reportedly in talks with Asus – as reported by Electronista. If this deal happens, Asus could become one of the three largest notebook manufacturers in the world.
Asus’ major portion of sales comes from the Eee PCs, whereas Toshiba earns its maximum notebook revenue from the full-size laptops. This acquisition can give Asus the much-needed penetration in the regular 14-17 inch laptop market.
Although the details of the deal are not known, the speculation gains momentum after Asus chairman Jonney Shih reportedly confirmed the rumor. Also this will be the second largest notebook-only acquisition after Acer’s buyouts of Gateway and Packard Bell.
